Demon Dogs! Thundarr is on DVD!

Back in 1980, I was already a fan of shows like Logan's Run, Planet of the Apes, and Ark II, but then came a Saturday morning cartoon that cemented my love of the post-apocalyptic genre, Thundarr the Barbarian.

Running for a total of 21 30-minute episodes, Thundarr had everything a 10-year old could want; barbarians battling savage monsters, evil creatures, swords and lasers, and of course a super-hot magical Princess. It was a mashup of Conan and Star Wars and it was awesome.

Now days, it shows up on the schedule of the Boomerang channel every so often, and home-brew versions of DVDs have been floating around for a while, but it's taken a full 30 years for Thundarr to get an official DVD release.  As part of their "Made to Order" DVD program, WB will print up a four-disc set of PA cartoon goodness just for you for only $29.95.

From what I understand, there are no extras on the discs, and only a rudimentary menu system, but the picture quality is supposed to be pretty good.

I realize that it would take a pretty hard-core fan to actually buy all 21 episodes, but if you're like me, they're worth the price, particularly if you have kids.  Mine are a little younger than I was when I first saw Thundarr, but they already ask me to put it on for them, and it's never too early to introduce new fans to the genre.
