Watching from the Moon as the Earth Dies...

A really cool image came across in the Post-Apocalyptia Tumblr feed today.
I tried to track down some information on the artist, but I haven't found anything so far. I also haven't been able to find a higher resolution version of the image, so I went ahead and created my own at 1280x800 to use as my laptop wallpaper. My GIMP skills are a little lacking, but I think it came out alright. (click for larger)
The one thing I couldn't figure out was the astronaut's shadow, so if any of you have mad graphic skills, feel free to take a shot at it.
