2011 Doomsday Film Festival & Symposium - October 2011

It's things like this that make me wish I lived in a really big city. Yes, most people would call my home state "paradise", but having an entire film festival and discussion panel devoted to nothing but the post-apocalypse is about as likely for me as snow in the dead of winter.
So for all of you near New York City, you may not have 80-degree temperatures year-round, but to make up for it you get to go to the Doomsday Film Festival & Symposium, which for 2011, is going to happen from October 23 to 25.
Their site says the event explores our collective obsession with the Apocalypse in film, art, and culture.
From raptures, plagues, meteorites, nuclear holocausts, aliens, zombie attacks, ecological catastrophe, and cybernetic revolt to the 2012 doomsday predictions, the Festival will touch upon all possible permutations of our collective demise.
They'll be screening films from across the board, with works ranging from premieres to established classics to rediscovered gems. On the schedule for the 2011 Festival are nuclear fallout cartoons, early '60s atomic parables, '80s zombie punk, award-winning independent shorts, and much more.
The full schedule for 2011 hasn't been released yet, but past years' events have included screenings of A Boy & His Dog, Night of the Comet, Damnation Alley, Hardware, WarGames, and The Road Warrior.
The event will even incorporate a panel-based symposium featuring authors, artists, and all manner of experts on the End of Days.
You can get more information on their main site, or their Facebook page, and they even have videos available of past symposium discussions on their Vimeo channel.
And if you're planning to go, don't tell me about it; I'm jealous enough already.
